Salem United Methodist

Havana, United States

Founded in 1851 in the nearby community of Salem. When a rail line was constructed a few miles away around the turn of the 20th century, the community relocated eastward and chose the name "Havana" for the new town. Yes, it is named for Havana, Cuba. It seemed appropriate since the major resource then was "shade tobacco." The Salem Methodist Church moved to its current location in 1907, retaining its name from the original community.
