Hanalei Bridge

Princeville, United States

The small but iconic Hanalei Bridge serves as the gateway into Hanalei from the rest of the island. Due to the uneven layout of the land, this is the only road into Hanalei and the other northern towns beyond.During flooding rains, the water level of the stream below can potentially rise up to the height of the bridge. Some schools would cancel class sessions beforehand to keep North Shore children safe at home before the bridge is closed due to flash floods or other major storms. In peaceful weather, kayakers and stand-up-paddle boarders are seen riding by the bridge. When visitors cross the bridge to enter Hanalei, they can see a glimpse of the many wet-land taro fields that Hanalei is known for.
