Was founded in 1935 to make a Penn State education more accessible to the residents of the surrounding communities. The campus moved to its present location in 1938 on land given by heirs of John E. DuBois, Sr. The DuBois Educational Foundation was created in 1945 to continue the tradition of local support, exemplified by gifts that helped to construct the Swift and the Smeal buildings.
