Gribbin Head has been, for centuries, an important lookout. Iron Age people and medieval farmers settled on this prominent viewpoint around the hamlet of Coombe, and in Elizabethan times The Gribbin was a beacon site, which in 1588 helped carry the news to London of the approaching Spanish Armada.
