This cabin and park is dedicated to the Hopkins family of McGaheysville. Gerard T. Hopkins settled here in the late 1800s. He established the Rockingham springs resort which operated on this site until 1915. His son, John L. Hopkins, continued farming the 1000 or so family-owned acres known as Cave Hill, as did his son John L. Hopkins II. Next in line, John L Hopkins III, while still farming, is responsible for the development of this resort and community - Massanutten - begin in 1971 with some acreage from the original Hopkins tract.. The family tradition continues with his four children and operating other businesses in the area.
