Local History

Lincoln, United States

The area now known as McBean Park was once a large free range ranch located near naturally occurring salt springs. In the 1850's, the Dodd family settled the land and founded "Salt Springs Ranch." The ranch was purchased in 1885 by Alex Hemphill, an Irish entrepreneur, and later sold to the Ferrari family, gaining the historic "Ferrari Ranch" name. Operations included orchards, raising grain, and cattle.
