VALOR
Wetlands
Lincoln, United States
The lush intermittent wetlands between this trail and Auburn Ravine serve as habitat mitigation for the adjacent Lincoln Hills development. Restoration of these areas occurred from 2001 to 2004, starting with the removal of sandy waste material up to ten feet deep. This material was deposited during he Placer Mining Era when hydraulic gold mining washed tons of debris downstream. These wetland areas afford extra drainage capacity, recharge groundwater aquifers, filter sediment from storm water flows, and provide valuable habitat for many species of plants and animals.
