The Carriage House
Lake Ariel, United States
Erected in 1903 by congressman William Connell, this building was used for housing horses and wagons needed to transport the Connell family here from the train station in Lake Ariel. After 1913, when Lacawac was owned by the Waters family, barn dances became a popular use of this building. The Watres' would hire a band to spread word throughout the neighboring community about upcoming events filled with refreshments and dancing in the Carriage House. Today, the structure is used as a classroom, a venue for musical programs, and a science laboratory, while featuring a small museum area as tribute to Lacawac's history. This building and the surrounding buildings are recognized on the National Historic Register.
