Legendary deep in Manduria. This well is more than 2500 years old. It was described by Plinio il Vecchio around 80 B.C. . The place is known to be a cult place for the Messapic population and even Annibale from Carthago, when came here as conqueror in 212B.C.,was astonished by the place and the mystic properties of the water that naturally springs out of the rock. the level of the water never changes due to a complex hydraulic system studied by romans after they won over Annibale in 209 B.C. . Unluckily the water is no longer drinkable because of the absence of an idoneus pipe system for modern dirt water.
