Kårstadsteinen

Stryn, Norge

The carving from Kårstad belongs to the most noteworthy in the country. It was discovered when it was blasted and used as road filler. It was reassembled, and is now in Bergen Historical Museum. The boat designs belong to the rather late forms normally dated to the Iron Age, but there are also other designs and characters, such as a rune inscription in ancient Nordic. It says "Baij(?)R" and "ek aljamark(i)R". The interpretation of the first is disputed, while the second might mean "I, the stranger".
