The cemetery at Fort beard was established in the Indian wars ( in 1866) and now stands as a reminder of frontier days. Since its inclusion into the National Cemetery system is now Cemetery and as such as not only a place for the resting dead of hundreds who serve their country, but a shrine to all who fought in order that America might remain free. Fort Bayard cemetery became a national cemetery in 1973 through the passage of Public Law 93-43. Presented by a Jacob Bennett Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution 1974
