Craggaunowen - Fullacht Fiadh

Sixmilebridge, Ireland

This an archeologically experimental reconstruction of a hunter's cooking site as used from early Bronze Age until as late as early 17th century. The traditional Irish name is Fullacht Fiadh or Fian, which connects those sites with the Fianna, a legendary band of warrior heroes. The sites were used and re-used for cooking and bathing and are surrounded by characteristic mounds of waste material (broken heating stones and fire waste) that was thrown out after the cooking had been finished and the site had cooled.
