In appreciation and recognition of William R. Steinhaus, whose vision and passion led to the development of the Dutchess Rail Trail. As County Executive, he envisioned a linear county park connecting communities and providing a recreational opportunity to enjoy the beauty of Dutchess County. Today the Dutchess Rail Trail is used by thousands of people and is among the county's most treasured assets. Over the course of his twenty years of service as Dutchess County Executive, William R. Steinhaus was responsible for countless initiatives and projects that have made Dutchess County a better place to live, work and visit. No project was closer to his heart, however, than the Dutchess Rail Trail. His work brought federal, state and local partners together to make the trail a reality.
