Alice the Witch
Nelson, United Kingdom
Sculpture by David Palmer commissioned to mark the 400th anniversary in 2012 of the Lancashire Witch Trials in which Alice Nutter was part of a group of local 'Witches' accused of murder and hanged in Lancaster. The main testimony was that of a 9 year old child and mainly based on confessions (under duress) to achieve the convictions. Alice Nutter who lived in Roughlee Hall just down the road from here, maintained a Not Guilty plea throughout.
