Bethel Church

Two miles west the first church was built by Colonel John Doak in 1779. Captain James Tate, an elder, led in the battle of Cowpens and Guilford Courthouse (1781) a company drawn mainly from the church. In the churchyard 23 Revolutionary War soldiers are buried. The present building was erected in 1888.
