Long Cist Burials

Long cists dating from around 530AD were discovered near this site. Long cists are simply constructed graves made using long slabs, typically no wider or longer than the body laid in them. It is an early Christian grave, identified by it's east- west alignment and lack of grave goods. The surrounding area contains many more cists and souterrains and the remains of iron-age houses.
