Bidwell Bar Suspension Bridge & Tollhouse

Suspension bridge built in 1856. It was the first Bridge of its type in California. Many of the materials came to San Francisco around Cape Horn from Troy, New York and from there by river boat to Marysville. From Marysville materials were transported to Bidwell Bar on ox-drawn drawn wagons. The Bridge cost $34,922 and is 372 ft long. It spanned 130 ft over the feather river and was 29 feet above the water level.
