Madeleine De Roybon D'Allonne Plaque 1646-1718
Kingston, Canada
Of noble French birth, De Roybon was the first European woman to own land in Ontario. Westward from Collins Bay, she built a house, outbuildings, and trading post, grew crops and raised cattle. In 1687, marauding Iroquois destroyed her establishment and took her prisoner, and was released the following year.
