"At least 13 different species of bat can be found roosting, breeding or feeding in Bernwood Forest. Bat populations have suffered severe declines during the past century but here the network of woodland, meadows, streams and ditches provide just the right conditions for a variety of bats to flourish. Brandt's, Nathusius pipistrelle, Serotine, Barbastelle and Leisler's are not illustrated".
